Family Support Worker

Wylma Papadakis

As the Family Support Worker at DoWAT, Wylma provides targeted support to children and families facing challenges that may impact wellbeing, attendance, or learning.
She understands that difficulties at home—whether temporary or long-term—can affect a child’s ability to thrive in school.
Wylma's role is to offer confidential, compassionate support to families through a referral system coordinated by school staff.

Support may include issues such as emotional wellbeing, bereavement, family breakdown, mental health concerns, or financial hardship. Wylma works closely with schools to identify needs early and ensure children feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.
Where appropriate, I signpost or refer families to external services for more specialised help.

Wylma offers practical advice on topics such as routines, behaviour management, attendance, online safety, and promoting positive mental health. Support may be short-term or ongoing, depending on individual needs. She is also involved in key school transitions, helping children settle into new settings or prepare for secondary school.

In collaboration with other professionals, Wylma helps children with issues like self-esteem, anger management, friendships, and navigating family change. She work alongside Learning Mentors and pastoral teams to deliver a joined-up approach to support. Her goal is to reduce barriers to learning by strengthening family relationships and emotional resilience.

Wylma's availability is Monday to Wednesday, with in-school visits on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and online or telephone appointments across all three days.Access to support is through referral by the school’s pastoral, safeguarding, or leadership team. Once referred, Wylma will make contact with families directly to offer support in a way that suits them.

All conversations are confidential and handled with care and professionalism.
Early intervention can make a real difference—no issue is too small to be raised.
Every child deserves to be happy, confident, and successful, both in school and at home.
Wylma is committed to working in partnership with families to help make this possible.
If your child’s school feels support is needed, She'll be here to help.
