St John’s, Baldock Celebrates Outstanding Catholic Ethos and Successful Inspection
The Diocese of Westminster Academy Trust is proud to celebrate the recent success of St John’s Roman Catholic Primary School in Baldock, which has received a glowing report following its Catholic Schools Inspectorate (CSI) inspection held on 20–21 March 2025. The school has been recognised for its exceptional Catholic life and mission, with inspectors awarding it the highest grade of ‘Outstanding’ in this area, alongside strong grades in religious education and collective worship.
The report is a powerful affirmation of the school’s commitment to living out its mission, “Let the light of Christ shine in us.” Inspectors praised the school for being a joyful and welcoming Catholic community where Christ is placed firmly at the heart of daily life. Pupils were described as embracing opportunities to grow in virtue, serve others, and demonstrate leadership, particularly through roles such as faith and hope ambassadors. As one Year 5 pupil put it, “We bring hope, and that’s what Christ is all about-hope for a better life.”
St John’s was commended for its deeply rooted Catholic ethos, reflected in every aspect of school life—from the vibrant and prayerful learning environment to the high levels of pastoral care shown by all staff. Parents spoke movingly about their appreciation for the school’s values, with one commenting, “I feel honoured to be part of the Gospel assemblies and Masses. It is a pleasure to attend these special times with my child and all the St John’s community.”
The school also received recognition for its effective teaching of religious education, which was rated as ‘Good.’ Pupils demonstrate a growing theological understanding and are enthusiastic, articulate learners. Similarly, collective worship was rated ‘Outstanding’, with pupils engaging reverently in a rich variety of prayer forms and liturgies, and frequently taking the lead in planning and delivering them. The school’s vibrant prayer life was noted as a living expression of the Church’s liturgical calendar, providing opportunities for the entire school community to gather in faith and worship.
As a Trust, we are delighted by the outcome of this inspection and offer our heartfelt congratulations to the headteacher Mr. Thomas Timson, the staff, governors, and pupils of St John’s. Their success is a testament to their unwavering commitment to the Church’s mission in education. We are especially proud of how the school has responded to the recommendations from its previous inspection and continues to model what it means to be a community of faith, love, and service.
We look forward to seeing how St John’s will continue to flourish and inspire!
