Friendship Week at St Thomas More Catholic Primary School!
This week is Friendship Week at STM school. It is our way of focussing on the subject of anti-bullying and coincides with the national ‘Anti-Bullying week.’ The title for this year is ‘Choose Respect,’ a theme which is deeply embedded in our focus on teaching the children about good learning habits using the 5 Rs – Being Resourceful, Building Resilience, Relating to others, Reflecting on our ideas, and showing Respect for all.
The children will be exploring what respect means, gain an understanding that bullying is a choice of behaviour that should be avoided, that we can respectfully disagree with each other (we don’t have to be best friends or always agree with each other, but we do have to respect each other). We will remind the children that we all need to choose to respect each other, both face-to-face and online.
Kidscape have compiled some thoughts about how parents can support their child to develop respectful relationships. The link is: https://kidscape.org.uk/advice/advice-for-parents-and-carers/choose-respect-how-you-can-support-your-child-to-develop-respectful-relationships/
To raise awareness of this special week in school, the children wore odd socks on Monday, to emphasise that we are all different and unique. The children started the week with an assembly and will have special focused activities during the week. Look out for Marvellous Me messages about what your child has learnt throughout the week!
