History Lecture on Henry VIII

On Tuesday 7th March The Douay Martyrs Catholic Secondary School took 6th Form History students to Queen Mary University in London to hear a lecture by Professor Richard Rex (Professor of Reformation History at Cambridge and Fellow of Queens’ College Cambridge) on Kingship and Tyranny, which was very well attended.

He was lecturing on whether Henry VIII was always going to become a tyrant, and if all Kings destined to be tyrants? Or was it a particular event that changed Henry from a thoughtful, kind, loving King and husband to the tyrant he definitely became? This definitely gave us food for thought, which we can debate in class. The lecture sparked some very interesting questions at the end from the audience, all of which were answered satisfactorily by the Professor.
