David Dein visit to The Douay Martyrs School

On 13th September the year 11 students has a special extended assembly where they were visited by a guest speaker, David Dein. David gave a talk which covered his time as a former Vice-chairman of Arsenal FC, as well as being Vice-Chairman of the Football Association, and serving on numerous UEFA and FIFA Committees.

Pupils gained advice on how to prepare to be as successful as possible in their chosen pathways following school life, and also got to make refereeing decisions after watching video clips from this year’s world cup in Russia. Pupils were able to explore the benefits of the new VAR system which came into use for the first time this year, which David was instrumental in bringing to the world stage.

Pupils then took part in a Q&A session with David, where pupils got to ask this key figure some interesting questions about his time with Arsenal, the FA and also his help in making ‘disappearing spray’ a regular feature of world football! The feedback gained from students was very positive. We look forward to another guest speaker in the new year
