John Henry Newman Weekly Newsletter

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The excellent weather continues and will make for a wonderful day this Sunday. It is of course the JHNA Summer BBQ and Fun Run. I am pleased to see so many children and parents actively taking part in the day and helping to raise funds for the school. My thanks especially to the JHNA, who will be setting up on Saturday morning from 9:00a.m. and from 9:00a.m. on the Sunday morning; a fantastic effort. If you are able to help on either of these days I am sure that they would be very grateful. T

his week has seen our school back to near full capacity, as the many pupils who were in Europe, on work experience and on trips to Universities have returned. We are also very happy to welcome back our Year 11 pupils for their Sixth Form Induction; as well as the many new students joining our school next September.

On Friday we welcomed our feeder primary schools to our Community Mass and again this was a very enjoyable, if somewhat hot event. We have very strong links with our feeder schools and this makes for an easy transition from Year 6 to Year 7 and makes for a stronger community feel in our school. My thanks to all of the primary heads for the excellent work that they carry out for our children. The final two weeks of term are very busy.  As well as teaching normal lessons up until the last minute of the last lesson on the last day, we have an INSET day on Monday, and during the week a drama club performance of “Jungle Book”, Sports Day and our Summer Concert.

As well as a number of in-school activities to mark the end of the academic year. The Review of the Year is being prepared and will be sent out to you electronically. This is proving to be a far more efficient method of communication and reduces the amount of paper used by the school. School reports will be available to you soon and these also will be sent to you electronically. We have piloted this method of sharing data with parents this year with our Year 11 and Year 13 parents. It has proved to be very successful and has allowed our parents to see much more information about their child’s progress. You will be able to access all of their test results from the variety of modules or assessments they have taken, in all of their subjects. There will be a commentary from the Form Tutor and an overall assessment of how your child has progressed during the year. It will be an opportunity to discuss subjects and progress in much more detail with your child. Please let us have your thoughts as, with all new systems, improvements can be made in the early days very easily.

I thank you once again for your continued support of our school and for your prayers.

Enjoy the good weather and I look forward to seeing you at the JHNA Summer BBQ and Fun Run.

God Bless, Mr C Mathew – Headteacher
